Stomach Acid: Causes, Symptoms, And Ways To Increase It

The acid in the stomach that is essential for the process of digestion is referred to as Stomach acid or the Gastric acid. Sometimes the stomach does not produce enough acid and it leads to problems in the stomach. Hypochlorhydria is the name given to Low stomach acid. When our body does not get proper and necessary nutrients, the body becomes vitamin and mineral deficient. 

Stomach Acid is the only acid present in the body that helps in killing harmful bacteria from the food. When gastric acid or stomach acid is low in the body it can lead to many diseases and sometimes complications in health. 

LOW STOMACH ACIDS LEAD TO CERTAIN HEALTH CONDITIONS

There are many health conditions that can arise if our body does not produce enough stomach acid. Some of the complications include – Acid reflux, nausea, heartburn, skin issues, osteoporosis, diabetes, asthma, cancer, malnutrition, rheumatoid arthritis, etc. 

CAUSE OF LOW STOMACH ACID

There are many factors that can contribute to low stomach acid. But there are some factors that are more common and it can affect the digestive process too. These two reasons or factors for low gastric acids are poor diet & stress. Some of the factors include – high intake of sugar, fast eating of food, deficiency of zinc, prescription drugs, chronic illness, etc. If you address these issues properly it can increase or normalize the acid levels in the stomach and also helps in the digestive health improvement.

SYMPTOMS THAT YOU CAN FACE 

When acid in the stomach is low, it can trigger bad digestive activity. The acid is responsible for the food break down. When the food is not broken down, it sits in the stomach and causes the bacteria to grow. The two main symptoms that develop due to this process are gas and bloating. But sometimes you may experience other symptoms such as cramping, nausea, acid reflux, undigested food in stools, bad breath, weak hair and nails, hair loss, etc. 

HOW YOU CAN IMPROVE STOMACH ACID

Chew Properly: If you don’t chew the food properly this means that you are eating too fast and it is one of the factors causing low stomach acid. So chew all the food properly and this is the simple method to improve the acid. Take small bites while eating. 

No To Processed Food: What is a balanced diet? It is a diet rich in fruits and vegetables. This diet helps to increase levels of acid in the stomach. If you consume processed food than it can lead to inflammation in the stomach and also decrease the acid activity. So limit the processed food. 

Consume Ginger: Ginger is known to have anti-inflammatory properties and this is the essential quality for reducing the inflammation in the stomach. It is the best treatment for acid reflux and other gastric problems. 

Apple Cider Vinegar: It is the fermented liquid made up of the crushed apples, yeast and bacteria. The liquid is rich in proteins and enzymes that help break down the bacteria present in the food. Dues to its acidic properties, raw apple cider vinegar can increase the levels of the stomach acids. It also helps in reducing symptoms from acid reflux, diabetes, and high blood sugar.
