Sri Lanka Spinner Akila Dananjaya Suspended From Bowling For One Year By ICC

Akila Dananjaya, Sri Lanka spinner has been barred from bowling in international cricket for one year by the ICC (International Cricket Council). The decision come after ICC found his bowling action was illegal. He was informed during the first Test match against New Zealand in Galle which was held from 14-18 August.

After that, He went through an autonomous charge on his bowling action in Chennai on August 29. The results of the test noted that he wasn’t bowling with proper action. This is another suspension for Akila Dananjaya. The first suspension of the bowler coming into effect in December last year. He was first reported after the Galle Test played against England. After the suspension, he was then allowed to bowl in February. Then he was entered in Sri Lanka’s squad for the 5-match ODI series in South Africa.

Now after the second report on Dananjaya’s bowling action, he spinner has been suspended from bowling in international cricket for a term of 12 months. Dananjaya can now approach the ICC (International Cricket Council) for a review of his bowling action after the expiry of the said period of suspension.

Akila Dananjaya has played a total of 6 test matches in which he has scored a total of 135 runs. In terms of bowling figures, the player has taken 33 wickets with the best of 6/115. Four times he has taken five wickets. In ODI, the spinner has played 36 matches and scored 283 runs. In bowling, he has taken 51 wickets with best of 6 wickets for 29 runs. Two times he has taken five wickets in a match. In T20 International games, the bowler has played 22 games and scored 49 runs. In terms of bowling, he has taken 22 games, and the best is 3 for 36 runs.
