Ponniyin Selvan I Box Office Collection: Beats The Kashmir Files’ Worldwide Earnings

Ponniyin Selvan I, Mani Ratnam’s most recent film, is still doing well at the box office. The lifetime earnings of The Kashmir Files, the second-highest grossing Hindi movie of the year, have now been surpassed by the historical drama starring Aishwarya Rai, Vikram, Karthi, Trisha, and Jayam Ravi.

Ponniyin Selvan I experienced a tremendous jump of 60% on Saturday. The movie made between $14 and $15 crore on its ninth day of release in India. It currently has a gross international collection of nearly 355 crore, surpassing The Kashmir Files’ (340 crore) total worldwide collection.

Ponniyin Selvan-I, based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s 1955 historical fiction book of the same name, tells the tale of the youth of Arulmozhivarman, a strong southern ruler who later rose to become Rajaraja Chola I, played by Jayam Ravi. In the second instalment, he is anticipated to have a larger role.

Karthi plays a more prominent role of Vanthiyathevan, a brave and adventurous warrior in the film. Talking about it, he told PTI in an interview, “I’m a part of a very large film. I have all these lovely people for support. Normally in my films, I’m the only person facing the pressure, probably me and my director. But here we have more support to face this pressure. You feel all the more confident because you are getting launched by Mani sir in a film. So, I feel blessed that I’m getting introduced to a larger audience through this movie.”
