Ryan Reynolds, who plays Deadpool 3’s, admitted that he shared the fans’ excitement when Hugh Jackman’s comeback as Wolverine was announced.
Reynolds expressed his delight in a Forbes interview about the famed X-Men member and the Merc with the Mouth eventually meeting in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I couldn’t be more excited,” he said. “I mean, especially to do it this way. Ultimately, I get to work with some of my closest friends in the world and that doesn’t happen every day working in this business.” Reynolds also explained that keeping the secret of Jackman’s return left him physically on edge.
“I’m thrilled and I’ve been sitting on those couple of teasers for a few weeks now,” he continued. “It’s one of those moments where you’re hitting send or a tweet or a post — your hand is shaking when you’re messing with the zeitgeist in a way like that. It’s been amazing. I feel the same way that the fans do, though. I feel as excited that this character is coming back for another ride, particularly in this context. I think it’s something that people have wanted for a long time, to get this pairing up on the big screen, and that’s what we aim to do.”
Hugh Jackman to reprise Wolverine in ‘Deadpool 3’
Reynolds and Jackman made the formal announcement that Wolverine would be making a comeback for Deadpool’s MCU premiere in September 2022. It was believed that this would be Jackman’s final appearance as the hero when 2017’s Logan showed the death of the titular X-Men. Reynolds has clarified that Deadpool 3 won’t alter Logan’s timeline, though. Logan takes place in 2029, according to Reynolds. “Completely unrelated. Logan passed away there. Don’t even touch that.”
