Along the process, information about Doctor Who: The Power of the Doctor has come to light that points to the special featuring explosive scenes. The cast, which included Tennant, Finney, and Tate, can be seen performing together and appearing in explosive moments in early set images from Cardiff. The set includes special effects that depict explosions happening in residential streets. Neil Patrick Harris, who will play a villain in the special, may be seen in other set images. Pictures also hinted at the terrible death of Yaz, the companion of the Thirteenth Doctor, but this has not yet been verified.
The BBC has unveiled the official Doctor Who: The Power of the Doctor trailer for this forthcoming special, which will air in just a few weeks. The video features The Master’s appearance and a new Dalek threat in addition to providing the first complete look at Jodie Whittaker’s final episode as the recognisable sci-fi heroine.
The Master Plan
The reappearance of The Master, the eponymous character’s archenemy and renegade extraterrestrial Time Lord, is one of the more intriguing revelations from the Doctor Who: Power of the Doctor teaser, which teases a number of plot lines from Jodie Whittaker’s final appearance as the title character. The Master has generally sought to take control of the universe and cause The Doctor suffering in his different incarnations over the length of the programme, but the new trailer depicts him as wanting to completely eradicate The Doctor from existence. This idea and strategy were first hinted at in Doctor Who: Flux when The Master discovered that The Doctor was the Timeless Child and appeared to be studying how to effectively kill the main character permanently.
Audiences won’t have to wait long to discover what Doctor Who: The Power of the Doctor has in store now that the release date has been set. The trailer still leaves plenty questions unanswered about the plot’s details, including what will happen to several of Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor’s companions, notably Mandip Gill’s Yaz. When Doctor Who: The Power of the Doctor debuts on the BBC on October 23, it will be impossible to predict how the special will turn out.
