CTET 2020 Exam Syllabus Details For Paper I & Paper II

CTET 2020 Exam: CTET (Central Teacher Eligibility Test) is a national level professional exam meant to test the eligibility of a person for appointment as a teacher for class I to VIII. CTET is held biannually; one in the month of July and other in the month of December.

CTET 2020 EXAM SYLLABUS

The syllabus for CTET is divided into two categories:

  • Paper I(Primary level): meant for Primary class (Class I to V) teachers
  • Paper-II (Elementary level): meant for Elementary class (Class VI to VIII) teachers

Syllabus for Paper I is sectioned into the following headings:

  • Child Development and Pedagogy: The questions in this section will comprise of educational psychology of teaching and learning applicable to the age group of 6-11 years. The questionnaire will try to understand how the instructor will handle the psyche of a wide range of learners and facilitate them with the best suitable solution.
  •  Language I: this section will comprise of questions based on the expertise of the applicant in a medium of instruction.
  • Language II: This section will focus on elements of language, communication and comprehension abilities of the applicant.

The applicant is required to opt for two languages from the below-given list: English, Hindi, Gujrati, Marathi, Sanskrit, Assamese, Kannada, Mizo, Tamil, Khasi, Nepali, Telegu, Bengali, Malayalam, Oriya, Tibetan, Garo, Manipuri, Punjabi, Urdu.

  • Mathematics: It will comprise of the problems based on pedagogical issues, numbers, simple equations, algebra, geometry patterns, time, measurement, etc.
  • Environmental Studies: The questions here will mainly focus on the environment, food, shelter, water, family, etc. besides covering different pedagogical issues.

The questions will be based on the syllabus prescribed by NCERT for classes I to V but the difficulty level of the questions could be up to the elementary stage.

Syllabus for Paper II is sectioned into the following headings:

  • Child Development & Pedagogy
  • Language I 
  • Language II 
  • Mathematics and Science (for Mathematics and Science teacher): Topics covered will be Science Food, Materials, The world of the living, Moving things, people and ideas, How things work, Natural phenomena and resources and various pedagogical issues OR Social Studies/Social Science (for Social Studies/Social Science teacher): This section besides focusing on different pedagogical issues will contain questions from History, Geography, Social and Political Life.

The questions in the Child Development & Pedagogy section will comprise of educational psychology of teaching and learning applicable to the age group of 11-14 years. The questions will be based on the syllabus prescribed by NCERT for classes V to VIII but the difficulty level of the questions could be up to the senior secondary stage.
