The excise and taxation department of the Chandigarh administration has taken a decision to extend the date of the excise policy. This coronavirus global pandemic, as well as the lockdown imposed by the Central Government, are the main reasons behind this. Hence, the department asked the various hotel, restaurants, liquor vending shops as well as clubs to submit their consent in writing.

Earlier, the date of the excise policy was May 15, 2020. But, the new decision has planned to extend the date to June 20, 2020. The policy is undergoing a change for the second time. In the month of April, the policy changed for the first time. The first change happened when the date extension took place from April, 1 to April 15, 2020.
However, the hospitality industry has other concerns over the licence fee. The outlets like clubs and restaurants are not open and hence it is not possible for them to pay the fees. The concerned are opposing the decision to charge the license fees.

The excise poliy that releases in March should have the effect from the commencement of the new financial year that is from April 1. The policy being followed now is the old one only. This is because of the curfew and lockdown imposition. The old policy is in action till May 15.
Initially, the auction of the liquor shops experienced a cancellation. March 23 is the date of the auction.
As per the new released policy, all the 5 star hotels can open for as many as 24 hours. Additionally, the price of beer as well as whiskey is known to be increased by 15 to 20% in Chandigarh. The reason behind this is cow cess as well as the hike of 10% exise duty on IMFL. IMFL stands for Indian made foreign liquor.
