Astrophotographer Claims To Have Captured Chandrayaan-3 Landing Site On Moon

Chandrayaan-3 Landing Site

In a remarkable feat, American astrophotographer Andrew McCarthy claims to have successfully captured intricate details of the Moon’s southernmost region, pinpointing the exact site of India’s Chandrayaan-3 mission’s historic landing. McCarthy’s captivating image offers a unique perspective on the challenging lunar landscape where the Vikram lander made its momentous touch down.

Chandrayaan-3 Landing Site On Moon Captured

“I captured the photo of the southernmost portion of the moon tonight. This is where the Vikram lander touched down on Wednesday. This is about as detailed as I can get using my telescope,” Mr McCarthy wrote.

Shared on the platform X (formerly known as Twitter) on Friday, McCarthy’s image has garnered an astounding 176,000 views and nearly 5,000 likes. Enthusiastic reactions in the comments section ranged from describing the picture as “brilliant” to outright “impressive.”

“Great shot!! Goes to show how difficult landing on this portion is!! Kudos @Isro,” wrote one user. “Endlessly fascinating. Look at those crater holes.Nature repeats itself endlessly. Jaw dropping shot. Well done,” said another.

A third user commented, “Mind blowing image,” while another added, “That’s amazing. I thought it was a photo from lunar orbit”.

Adding to the lunar excitement, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) had an exceptional treat of its own to share. ISRO released a captivating selfie video captured from the moon’s surface, showcasing India’s robotic wonders, the Vikram lander, and the Pragyan rover. The video highlights the deliberate and careful movement of the Pragyan rover as it navigates the lunar terrain at a snail’s pace. ISRO tweeted, “… and here is how the Chandrayaan-3 Rover ramped down from the Lander to the Lunar surface,” along with the mesmerizing video.

This dual revelation of Andrew McCarthy’s remarkable lunar image and ISRO’s engaging video provides a vivid insight into the celestial journey of Chandrayaan-3, marking yet another milestone in humanity’s quest to explore the mysteries of the Moon’s uncharted territories.
