Anubhav Sinha’s movie Thappad releasing on 28th February talks about chauvinism and domestic violence, which is still prevalent in society. Shot in Delhi and Lucknow, the movie is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar and Anubhav. The title of the movie clearly indicates that the story is somewhere linked to a slap. The filmmaker shows how one slap is also a big deal and should not be acceptable in a relationship.
Thappad is Taapsee’s second movie with director Anubhav Sinha
After Mulk, this is Taapsee’s second movie with director Anubhav Sinha after. On working again with Anubhav Taapsee she said that she is very excited about the movie “When he discussed ‘Thappad’, I immediately decided this was a film I had to do. It has a thought-provoking storyline and deals with a subject which must be addressed in our society. To put it in perspective, looking at what we aim to convey with our film, I can say ‘Thappad’ is this year’s ‘Pink'”, said Tapsee.

Tapsee Pannu who plays a character of an unapologetic woman is very legitimate when it comes to her married life. Pavail Gulati, plays the role of Taapsee’s husband in the movie. The film also features Dia Mirza, Manav Kaul, Ratna Pathak Shah, Ram Kapoor and Tanvi Azmi in major roles.
The trailer opens up with the scene, where Tapsee is sitting in front of the lawyer telling the reason for not to continue her married life. That’s when the audience gets enlighten about the fact that “it is a slap” which has led her to live separate fom her husband. The lawyer reacts to the situation with knitted eyebrows and asks “So, just a slap”?

Then, the trailer introduces us to a time when the couple had a good time together. She is seen managing all the household chores with love, preparing lunch, taking care of her laws, husband choices and every other little things which builds the relationship stronger. Like every other woman, she puts all her efforts to make a happy married life until she gets slapped by her husband in a house party out of frustration in an argument with office colleagues.
After such a humiliating incident, her entire perception towards the relationship totally changes. She is not able to accept that she has been slapped in the presence of people by her husband. For her it is not just a slap, it is far more than that. She builts silent anger which is quizzical.
While everyone tries to convince her that a slap is not a big deal. Her own mother tells that women are supposed to tolerate these things. The only thing Taapsee’s mother is worried is the tag of a divorced woman which will be given to her. Despite all this, Tapsee is still determined to stand strong. She beleives what is wrong is wrong and totally against the treatment, she has been offered.
